Colette tells Melusine a story about a brother and sister who has gone mad. Melusine is very interested, because she also has a deep love for her brother. She wonders how other siblings think about eachother. Hänsel and Gretel are not lost in the forest... like in the normal story, they are the hunters of the forest! I have the feeling that this story is almost like a crossover between Red Riding Hood (Rotkäppchen) and Hänsel und Gretel, The little lambs symbolise lost children, while the wolf symbolise the duo of Hänsel and Gretel. At the end, it is suggested that the kids actually .. do something with eachother. I shall leave this up to your imagination, as I do not want to describe what happens.
This song is a remake of the イツワリの檻 song from the 不思議な少女のオペレッタ album.
In the Grimgald album, the opening quote of this song in the booklet can be translated as follows:
"The [little duo], who wandered through the dark forest,
Corrosion occurred inside their bizarre hearts, and in the end..."
Inside a dark forest, underneath the moonlit night, madness is hidden
Two children smiled ominously
"Hänsel... さぁ狩りの時間よ(獲物は何処かな)"
"Gretel... 忘れ物はない?ついておいで(二人で探そう)"
"Hänsel.. saa kari no jikan yo (emono wa doko kana)"
"Gretel... wasuremono wa nai? tsuite oide (futari de sagasou)"
Gretel: "Hänsel.. come, it's time to hunt (I wonder where the prey is)"
Hänsel: "Gretel... do we have everything? Come with me (Let's search together)"
hora ne... mayoeru kohitsuji ga furafura samayoi
hikaru hitomi ni utsuru mou wana no naka
Look... lost little lambs wander whimsically...
The reflection in their bright eyes, they are already inside the trap
"早く、早く、逃げなきゃダメよ... あと少しで 追いついちゃう"
"踊れ、踊れ、楽しまなくちゃ... あと少しの 運命だから"
"hayaku, hayaku, nigenakya dame yo... ato sukoshi de oitsuichau"
"odore, odore, tanoshimanakucha... ato sukoshi no sadame dakara"
Lamb 1: "Quickly, quickly, we need to run, this is no good... soon they will catch up with us!"
Lamb 2: "Dance, dance, we should have fun... We need to bear this fate for just a little longer"
kare no ono to kanojo no yumi ga
gensou no naka koyoi mo chi wo motomeru
The big brother's (his) axe and the little sister's (her) axe
Indulged in their fantasy, they seek blood tonight again
mori no naka wo kakemeguru [kyouki to gensou]
narihibiku sakebigoe
yami to tomo ni kyoufu ga hirogari
sangeki ga ima hajimaru
Running about the forest, [Madness and Fantasy]
their screams echo
Together with the darkness, the fear grows
The tragedy starts now...
""もっと、もっと、まだ足りないよ... 血の香りが 消えちゃいそう""
""motto, motto, mada tarinai yo... chi no kaori ga kiechaisou"" (ehehehe)
Hänsel and Gretel: ""More, more! It's not enough... the smell of blood is disappearing"" (ehehe)
akaku somaru futari no te ni wa
kawarihateta nie no kakera
ware wo wasure kemono no you ni
gensou no naka koyoi mo chi wo motomeru
The hands of the two are dyed in crimson
and the lambs were completely turned into shreds of sacrifice
Forgetting themself, they behave like beasts
Indulged in fantasy, they seek blood again tonight
mori no naka wo kakemeguru [kyouki to gensou]
tomaranai waraigoe
aa... futari no yuganda kizuna wa
mou dare ni mo jama dekinai!
Running about the forest, [Madness and Fantasy]
they cannot stop their laughter
aa... the distorted bond between the two....
Nobody can interfere anymore!
Translation note:
This is what the lambs say to eachother, not what Hänsel and Gretel say. The first lamb wants to live, and attempts flees accordingly. The second one sees this as a play of fate, they are dancing toward the end of their lives and should put up with it as long as it takes. The antithese between the two lambs is splendid. Their contrasting view of life is a nice detail, run so we can live versus dance until we die here.
Refers to Hänsel and Gretel
Refers to the screams of the lambs
闇と共に 恐怖が広がり -> the forest becomes dark, but the fear is of the lambs
-> The killing of the lambs
- 赤く染まる 二人の手には -> refers to Hänsel and Gretel's hands
Refers to the lambs
我を忘れ 獣のように -> refers to Hänsel and Gretel, I translate "我" as oneself/themselves (plural because it is two people) instead of I/me, because I think it fits better in my opinion.
Refers to Hänsel and Gretel
