Gates of Hades - Romaji and Translation

Here we have the last song of the Grimoire album! The song has also been featured in the Fragment CD with the same lyrics (Track 3). I think this song describes the fall of darkness of the hermit. She gets lured into the darkness and is offered a forbidden red fruit. The forbidden red fruit might be the fruit from the Bible, or a pomegranate. I think the second one is more likely. Why a Pomegrenate? Well, because this song is called Gates of Hades. Hades is the Greek God of the dead and also a synonym for the underworld.

One day, Hades wanted a wife and raided a girl, Persephone, who happened to be the daughter of the goddess Demeter (of harvest). Demeter desperately wanted her daughter back, Zeus (the king of the gods) agreed, on the condition that her daughter shouldn't have eaten anything in the underworld. Unluckily, the girl had already eaten one pit of a pomegranate and thus she couldn't come back to the earth permanently. A deal was closed then, in the spring and summer Persephone would live on the earth, her mom happy and all crops / flowers / plants would grow well. In the autumn and winter, Persephone would have to go back to her husband, Hades, in the underworld and her mother would be so sad that the crops don't grow.

I'd like to think this song is a twist on the story of Persephone and Hades. The girl wanders into the territory of death herself because she went into the labyrinth. Then she eats a fruit and becomes unable to return to the normal world. As a puppeteer, she lures more people into the dark and thus becomes the "god of nothingness".

This composition is truly nice, both Hato and Yuki's voice fit the song, their voices are both very haunting, which perfectly fits this song. I like how Noël decided to use a Harpsichord-like instrument at the beginning and then it transitions into an electrical organ with layers of chants. The drums in the chorus and post chorus are also great, they remind me of Ariabl'eyes a little haha.

Translation notes:
-    A beautifully blooming flower mingles with the rotten soil and A beautifully blooming flower, tied by frozen water, are basically saying the same. A beautiful girl falls into darkness and gets converted by the dark powers into a distorted god.

虚栄の迷宮 (Vanitas no Meikyuu) - Labyrinth of Vanitas - Romaji and Translation

This song is about a hermit who likes to mess with people and gets them lost in the labyrinth of Vanitas (Vanity). Vanity is having excessive pride of one's appearance or achievements.
 I'm not sure about the gender of the Hermit, but I assume it is a girl. This Hermit also follows the labyrinth herself and becomes the "Ruler of the Abyss".

This translation was quite hard to make. I am not completely sure if it's correct, but I tried my best to decipher it. Lovely katakana by the way is represented by greek letters. Please check the translaion notes if you cannot figure out what I wrote.

This composition is pretty impressive, it really grew on me while I was translating it. Hato is so good at singing fast, it sounds really nice.

Strega - Romaji and Translation

This song is really growing on me! Yuki's voice is eerily haunting it's amazing! So this song is about the branding of the Witch of the Abyss or Luna, there is no way to be sure of it. The translation is a little bit strange: You should read the parts between (brackets) together and the parts without brackets together. I imagine the lyrics between brackets are a chant that is sung during the branding and the part without brackets describes what is happening.

"Strega" is the Italian word for witch. And witchcraft of Southern European origin is called Stregheria. Someone with deviant/different behaviour would often be connected to bad luck or incidents, as a consequence the person would be marked a witch and get punished... This is what happens in this song too. A girl who is a little different (maybe because of her heterochromia) is burnt on a witch circle, but she is strong enough to survive the judgement and probably destroys those who burnt her instead. (This is my speculation, it's not exactly clear to me either...)

幽閉されし黒のグリモワール (Yuuheisareshi Kuro no Grimoire) - CD translation

Hello, I am back, it's the 8th of the 8th and it's 2020. It's so hot outside, I'm melting. So I thought, I'm going to cool off by writing some blog posts and fixing some of my older ones.

From today on I'm working on the transcription of the 2nd Fantasia, "幽閉されし黒のグリモワール (Yuuheisareshi Kuro no Grimoire)", in semi-proper english, "Imprisoned Black Grimoire".  If you haven't heard the crossfade, you can find it here:

Wow 2011 hehe! That's a long time ago. This CD was the first CD where Yuki made an appearance if I'm correct. The first song is sung by Yuki, so guess what my order of enjoyment was? 1>3>2, Strega is such a nice song. Gates of Hades is also a very nice one. Hato is so good at singing fast in the 2nd song, but I think I still prefer the 3rd song over the 2nd. But the songs are allllll sooooo goooood! The 3rd song has been remastered in 10th Fantasia, with exactly the same text and sung by Yuki! I will tag the10th fantasia in my translation post as well. 

I must admit the transcription of this CD was one of the hardest out of all -LostFairy- CDs. Especially song 2 was very hard... it took me quite some time to get it from paper to typed text.

This CD tells the story of Luna before Ataraxia. I'm pretty sure it is Luna (there is no voice acting drama or an explicit statement, but from the art and the story I can tell). She has heterochromia and silver hair and in Ataraxia (to be precise the song 穢れ亡き悠久の呪詛) the rebranding of the mark of the witch is mentioned. The first branding then must take place in this CD.

The second song's name had a furigana that wrote it as "Vanitas", thus I won't be using "kyoei" for the romaji title. The title will be translated as "Labyrinth of Vanitas".
